Living art in The Gambia

Based in The Gambia Wide Open Walls is a spectacular local village living art project.

A collaboration by Lawrence Williams' Gambian project, Bushdwellers and Write on Africa, a South African based organisation, has seen the Bushdwellers concept grow into something with greater longevity with the added bonus of encouraging tourism to The Gambia.

Street artists from around the world, including local Bushdwellers, spent several weeks last June painting. Their immediate goal was to create connections through mural painting and art workshops. Art supplies were provided to children and a dilapidated classroom refurbished, creating a colourful space.

Long term, the project seeks to raise funds for the village by publishing a book and through responsible tourism.
