[Colour crush] Yellow

Safari Fusion blog >< Colour crush] Yellow | Mid century modern in a Clifton apartment Cape Town. South Africa
Shake off your house Winter blues by adding fresh, bright and sunny yellow accents to your home.

From rich mustard to crisp vibrant yellow, you only need a touch to bring your space alive. Paint your front door, plant a succulent in a yellow pot, paint a vintage cabinet, or choose soft furnishings like a leather accent chair, ottoman or cushions in this lovely bright and smiley hue.

One of my personal favourites, the Nguni Wire Head in gorgeous matt black is now available in our Safari Store.

African street art

Safari Fusion blog >< African street art | Jaws corner Zanzibar Stone Town, Tanzania
I love Melbourne's hidden lane ways filled with graffiti, but I think Africa's street art takes it to the next level.

From Jaws corner in Zanzibar's Stone Town to the tip of the continent in Woodstock, Cape Town you can find street art inspired by Africa's wonderful wildlife.

A green seat

Safari Fusion blog >< A green seat | Retro green velvet chairs in the lounge at The Robertson Small Hotel, Robertson South Africa
You know when you are saving your favourite Instagram pictures and you suddenly realise you are gravitating towards the same thing, again and again...unintentionally of course!

Well that was the case for me recently, I have been clicking on that heart and saving pictures of beautiful African interiors, of varying styles, that all have one thing in common, green seating.

Klompie bricks

Safari Fusion blog | Klompie bricks | Maasai craft studio at Angama Mara, Masai Mara Kenya
It's incredible how a small, narrow Dutch brick has made its mark on architecture and design in Cape Town, South Africa.

From the 17th century until the end of Dutch colonialism Klompie bricks were bought to the African colony as ship ballast. With local clay not suitable for brick making, clay products from the Netherlands were highly sort after. The brick is still produced today in South Africa by specialised makers.

Library style

Safari Fusion blog | Library style | A contemporary style library in a Newlands [Cape Town] home, South Africa
As an avid reader and collector of beautiful coffee table books, I knew my next house would have to have a large library wall to accommodate my collection and to display my African art.

So as I start to think about designing and decorating my library I thought I would share some pictures of South African residences and their beautiful reading library spaces.

Tikar bangles

Safari Fusion blog | Tikar bangles | Modern decorative clay and bead bangles of the Tikar tribe of Cameroon
Now available online and in our studio are more of our beautiful white bead Tikar Bangles.

Regalia and objects of prestige including headdresses, bead bangles and leopard skins have been revered for centuries by dignitaries and artisans of Cameroon's Tikar tribe as a symbol of social standing.

Crafted from clay the bangle is covered with stitched beads pressed into the clay and mounted on a black metal stand.

Safari Fusion blog >> [Photographer] Hassan Hajjaj | Afro-pop style photographic portraits by Moroccan photographer Hassan Hajjaj

Regarded as Morocco's answer to Andy Warhol; photographer, designer and filmmaker Hassan Hajjaj's Afro-pop style of photography is a feast for the eyes.

Inspired by photographic works of Malick Sidibé and influenced by fashion photography and his North African heritage, Hassan Hajjaj's recent works capture musicians and performers in exquisitely composed ornate portraits.

[Colour crush] White on white

Safari Fusion blog | [Colour crush] White on white | A fresh and light livingroom with two White Bamileke Feather Headdresses [Juju hats]

Here at Safari Fusion we are colour tragic, the more colourful the better! However this does not mean we do not appreciate and love the fresh style of white on white.

When decorating with white it is all about texture, from timbers to textiles and of course feathers, white on white is far from plain and is definitely not playing it safe when it comes to decorating.
